Tourism Head Ramon Jimenez is out of touch with the Philippines if the reported transcript of his press briefing is to be taken as accurate. In his press briefing he is reported to have asked the question “What do you have to say to someone who lives about 6,000 kilometers away in Norway for him to come all the way here to see some goldfish under the sea?”

I have been scuba diving here in the Philippines a few times now and I have never seen any “goldfish” but I have seen so many marine creatures in one place than is possible anywhere on the planet.

Mr. Jimenez, the “simplicity” you seek is not to be found in belittling the most beautiful marine life on this planet, found nowhere else in such abundance of variety, by making them collectively “goldfish”.

If simplicity is your watchword then let's consider “WOW Philippines”: simple, adaptable, impressive, translatable and transportable to almost any tourism activity . . . except the ones the Harry Thomas Jr. measures.

Mr. Jimenez maybe you should go and experience scuba diving, or snorkeling, or sailing, or kayaking, or white water rafting, or caving, or river trekking, or climbing, or birdwatching, or mountain biking or . . . everything else this beautiful country has to offer before you make your insightful pronouncements. Perhaps then you will find there is “chickenjoy” in every corner, crack and crevice of this beautiful Philippines.

"If you want to live it, do it in the Philippines!" Could be your new slogan.

Does anyone else have a suggestion that might help Mr. Jimenez?
